Dave Bircher wrote a poem in honor of his first wife Connie who died of cancer. “When I was younger I would run from place to place. I was happy to do that. It never bothered me. I loved to work. Now as I get older that gets harder for me,” says Dave, climbing over a fence after caring for the cows. Dave on his 4-wheeler as he drove around performing the afternoon farm chores. For years Dave Bircher worked at a day job and would come home at night to manage the farm and spend time with his wife, Connie, and their two daughters. After Connie died of breast cancer, Dave was devastated by the loss so he quit farming and started working at Ohio University. One day while Bircher was working on the grounds crew he met Nancy on his lunch break. Soon after, they married, retired from Ohio University and went back to farming full time. Bircher wrote a poem in honor of his first wife Connie who died of cancer.
